About Me
I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario, providing evidence-based psychotherapy for adults in Toronto and across Ontario (virtual therapy available). I completed my Ph.D. and M.A. in Clinical and Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto and trained at Ontario’s leading hospitals, including CAMH, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, North York General Hospital, and Brampton Civic Hospital. My hospital and university-based training prepared me to diagnose and treat depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, stress-related disorders, ADHD, and complex emotional difficulties using empirically supported approaches.
As a psychologist in Toronto, I work with many individuals who are accustomed to performing at a high level but may feel internally overwhelmed, self-critical, emotionally exhausted, or unfulfilled. Many of my clients seek therapy not only for symptom relief, but for deeper insight, emotional clarity, and sustainable personal growth.
My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT for trauma), and Mindful Self-Compassion. I tailor treatment to each client, combining practical tools with insight-oriented exploration. Therapy with me is collaborative, thoughtful, and grounded in both scientific research and genuine human connection.
I also provide culturally sensitive therapy for individuals navigating bicultural identity, intergenerational family dynamics, and high-performance cultural expectations. As a first-generation Korean-Canadian psychologist, I have a unique understanding of how culture, immigration, and family systems can influence one’s mental health and sense of identity. I frequently support clients working through their cultural identity and expectations, perfectionism, belonging, and achievement-related stress.
In addition to my clinical work, my academic research has significantly shaped how I understand and facilitate meaningful therapeutic change. In my doctoral dissertation, I analyzed therapy sessions from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for depression, examining the communication patterns between therapists and clients that influence treatment outcomes. This work strengthened my ability to help clients put complex internal experiences into words and to provide therapy that is both emotionally attuned and focused on measurable, sustainable progress. I have presented at national and international conferences, published in peer-reviewed journals, and remain committed to ongoing professional development.
